the hester canterbury ladies’ foray into fashion+-

The future ladies of Hester Canterbury enjoyed a spectacular mid-July outing to Rippon Lea House and Gardens where the National Trust showcased some of the finest wedding fashions. The exhibition, Love, Desire and Riches featured haute couture gowns from leading fashion designers including Valentino and contemporary creations from leading Australian designers Collette Dinnigan, Mariana Hardwick and Alex Perry.

Curator, Elizabeth Anya-Petrivna, led the group on a stunning journey of wedding couture from the 18th to 21st century, illustrating the changing face of wedding design through the ages. Gowns ranged from colourful to prudently quiet, to highly embellished and exuberant._DSC8997Lively conversation followed between future neighbours and friends over a delightful High Tea of savouries and sweet treats before returning back to Canterbury. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day, including BASS Care Director and Board member, Marie Curlis. The highlight of the excursion for many was BASS Care Chief Executive, David Cotter, volunteering to chauffer the group by mini bus to and from the Display Suite to Rippon Lea.

foundations taking shape+-

_DSC3010The construction currently underway at the Hester Canterbury site is turning an extraordinary concept into an inspiring reality for future residents to relish for many years to come. Construction at Hester Canterbury commenced with the official turning of the sod back in April 2014. Works are progressing well despite the challenges of Melbourne winter weather. Buxton Construction is on track and working to schedule.

living longer living better with bass care+-

There is a profound social shift happening in Australia as our population rapidly ages. To provide a sustainable system that will support our population, the Australian Government introduced the Living Longer Living Better policy in 2012. July 2014 saw a second round of major reforms including changes to Home Care Packages and Residential Aged Care.

This presents an exciting range of opportunities for the community and for BASS Care to better deliver our service offer with continued integrity. To find out more about the changes an information session will be held on 7 October 2014 in the local area, register your details on 03 8809 4199.

bass care ceo david cotter answers a few questions+-

He joined BASS Care in 1999 with the objective of ensuring the organisation contributed services of the highest standard to the community it serves. David has been responsible for the redevelopment of the aged care facility Faversham House and its impressive Hamer Wing. His attention is now focused on the successful creation of BASS Care’s first innovative boutique retirement community, Hester Canterbury.

What is the motivation behind Hester Canterbury?

We were aware that there was a lack of refined retirement living accommodation in Boroondara. It’s a discerning population and we are determined to deliver something visually impressive but, more importantly, create a home where a range of services are available with qualified support at hand, should the needs or preferences of the residents change over time.

What makes BASS Care unique?

We are one of the few not for profit and nondenominational care organisations operating in Melbourne. We are always looking at ways to innovate and respond so that we can ensure we’re able to serve the needs of those living in our community. BASS Care has done this for almost 60 years and intends to do so for many years to come.

What sets Hester Canterbury apart from other retirement options?

Apart from the obvious quality of the design and standard of finish, Hester Canterbury is located within walking distance of the iconic Maling Road. Needless to say, being able to access services and amenities in the local area makes Hester so much more desirable. We’re focused on putting the needs of the residents above everything else and have the experience and community-focused approach that ensures our residents have all they need to live well.

parkside apartments prove to be a winner+-

At the heart of the philosophy behind Hester Canterbury was the desire to create a new direction in retirement living; a home with a sense of style and purpose combined with thoughtful innovations that make day-to-day living that little bit easier and more enjoyable for all.

Clearly, this approach has resonated strongly with people in Melbourne, with a good number of  apartments reserved at Hester Canterbury since the official opening of the Display Suite in January this year. To have achieved this result so early in the development process is testament to the alignment of the quality design and service offer with the community’s preferences.

One of the aspects of the apartments that has proved to be particularly appealing is the beautifully considered apartment interiors.

In the kitchens for example, Blum accessories and high quality Miele appliances have been integrated into the timber joinery. Exquisite finishes include statement marble splashbacks and Caesarstone benches. Indeed, everything has been carefully selected; from surfaces that are elegant yet easy to clean, to premium oak flooring throughout the kitchen and living areas and the quality of the fixtures for everyday use.

construction commences+-

Clearly, one of the most important decisions for any property development is the choice of a builder. After careful consideration of a number of suitably qualified candidates, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Buxton Construction as the construction partner for Hester Canterbury, and the commencement of construction on site.

The Buxton name has been synonymous with quality construction for more than four decades. It has delivered projects  across all market sectors, including education centres, commercial and industrial buildings, landmark sports developments and residential projects that range from high-end boutique home developments to high-rise apartments.

The impressive experience that Buxton Construction offers, their enthusiasm and commitment of the team formed by Managing Director, Andrew Briggs, will bring the vision for the development to life.

The strong multi-disciplinary capability of the team in the construction process will ensure that the successful completion of Hester Canterbury is delivered to the high standard that future residents will appreciate for many years to come.

“We are extremely excited to be involved with the development of the Hester Canterbury seniors’ living project. The exacting standards and highest quality required on this project is something that we pride ourselves on and is a testament to everyone involved” says Andrew Briggs, Managing Director – Buxton Construction.”
